Central Hawke’s Bay Solutions Project.
Late in 2009 Central Health/Te Whatuiapiti Trust, Waiapu Anglican Social Services and Central Hawke’s Bay District Council secured a Department of Internal Affairs funded internship to carry out local service mapping of Central Hawke’s Bay. Specifically the project is designed to find out what health and social services are currently being provided within Central Hawke’s Bay and where if any are the gaps and overlaps in service provision.
Fiona Bell from Waiapu Anglican Social Services is the intern was placed at Central Health to undertake the project. The project was funded by the Department of Internal Affairs and supported in kind by Central Health/Te Whatuiapiti Trust, Waiapu Anglican Social Services and Central Hawke’s Bay District Council.
To establish what services are operating and where potential gaps and overlaps were several forms of information gathering was used
The findings from the surveys was presented and returned to the community in a variety of ways.
The main benefit from this project is that it provided an up to date picture of the services operating in Central Hawke’s Bay, in turn it highlighted areas of over and under provision. In addition information on the barriers to accessing services has emerged. All this information can then assist providers with their strategic planning and hopefully lead to a more collaborative and integrated health and social service sector in Central Hawke’s Bay.
